Place: Centro Naval – corner of Cordoba and Florida, 6th floor
Cost: 220 or 250 pesos (see below)
This month we will try a relative newcomer, a 135 year old club that was established in May of 1882. This magnificent example of “belle epoque” architecture sits on the corner of Cordoba and Florida and is, of course, Centro Naval – the home of the Naval Officers Club.
The elegant dining room on the 6th floor offers several options. The daily executive menu offers a main course that changes daily, dessert, coffee and beverage (water, soft drink or wine). There is another special which adds an appetizer and more main course choices from the a la carte menu. Pricing with tip for the first choice will be 220 pesos, the second choice is 250 pesos. The dessert choices are served from a cart that includes flan, budin de pan, fresh fruit and a few other options. Additional glasses of wine can be purchased for a reasonable 30 pesos.
Mandatory dress for this lunch will be SMART. The club has a dress code that does not allow shorts, denim, tee shirts, casual footwear, etc. On a recent visit where there were about 40 people dining, only four were not wearing jackets!
