Beer Festival: BeerDay Buenos Aires 2013

On May 26, 2013, the Auditorium of Buenos Aires Design Center (Av. Pueyrredon 2501, Recoleta. Level 2) receives Beer Day Festival, a beer tasting event focusing on specialty beers. The Festival will bring together 20 breweries from different regions in the country in one place.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to cook with beer, and try dishes to be tasted with the different specialty beers; taste more than 50 styles of beer; and attend to talks on food pairing, sensory analysis of beer, tasting process and history.

The event will also feature live shows and DJ sets. One of the guests is the band tribute to the Blues Brothers, The Soul Men.
Some of the Argentine breweries participating in the event are: Cross (Bariloche), Owe (Neuquén), Fenicia (Rosario), Sauce (Santa Fe), Owl (Entre Rios) and Antares (Mar del Plata), among others.
The entrance fee includes five tastings of different styles of specialty beers (including Honey, Indian Pale Ale, Scotch, Porter and Weissbier) and access to all the talks. The event starts on Sunday at 2pm and finishes at 1am.

BAIN Downtown members are invited to join in this month’s Strictly Social meeting at Downtown Matias in Recoleta, an Irish pub located next to Starbucks in the Terrazas Buenos Aires Design Center.  Our start time is 5 p.m., BAIN will provide appetizers and there is a 2 for 1 happy hour menu available!

Location:  Downtown Matias at the Buenos Aires Design Center in Recoleta (next to the Recoleta Cemetery, nearest the intersection of Av Libertador and Pueyrredon).

Program:  Conversation!  Meet someone new!  Bring friends and introduce them to BAIN!  We will provide light appetizers and finger food while our guests enjoy the happy hour specials of 2 for 1 on beverages.

Tango: Buenos Aires City Dance Champhionship 2013

From Sunday, May 12th to Sunday, May 26th, 2013, the Buenos Aires City Tango Dance Championship 2013 will be held in different “milongas”, theaters, and cultural centers across the city.

The competition is on the look out for new winning couples in the categories Tango de Pista, Milonga, “Milongueros” of the World, and Waltz, who will qualify to participate in the World Tango Dance Championship that will take place in Buenos Aires in August 2013.
The Championship starts on May 12th at Teatro 25 de Mayo. The qualifying rounds will continue on Saturday 18 at CC Resurgimiento (La Paternal), Sunday 19 at CC Julián Centeya (San Cristóbal), and Tuesday 21 at CC Carlos Gardel (Chacarita), all with free entrance and limited capacity, until Wednesday 22 at La Viruta (Palermo) ($ 40 Pesos), to arrive at semifinals on Thursday 23rd at El Pial (Flores) ($30 Pesos).
The Final will be held on Sunday, May 26th at the recently inaugurated cultural center Usina del Arte (Av. Pedro de Mendoza & Caffarena), in La Boca, with free entrance. Free tickets for this event must be picked up at Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575, on Friday 24th, from 12pm to 5pm (2 tickets per person). Make sure to get in line early!
Tickets for the events that are not free of charge will be on sale at the respective venues.

Recoleta Showroom Tours – Starting May 11th!

April Monthly Meeting!

BAIN DOWNTOWN THIS FRIDAY!

Join us at the April Monthly Meeting for Buenos Aires International Newcomers!  We’ll be socializing over baked goods from Sugar and Spice; discovering new information about our adopted country, Argentina; and just having fun.

Place: ICANA, Maipú 672, (between Viamonte and Tucumán) in the city center. Our meeting will be on the ground floor in the library.

Program:  The topic of this month’s presentation will be; The Direction of Argentina: Socially, Politcally and Economically by John Richards.  John Richards was born in Panama and spent his childhood in the US before moving to Argentina in 1984.  His years in Argentina have been spent in multiple industries all of which have used his mulitnational experience and bi-lingual skills.

Earth Day Bike Race

In celebration of Earth Day, Sunday, April 21 at 10:00am there will be a FREE Bike Race starting at the Planetarium in Palermo (corner of Figueroa Alcorta & Sarmiento).

For participants that would like a more competitive race, the distance would be 15 km at a higher speed. For those that would like to enjoy the view or bring young family members the distance is 10 km at whatever speed you would like. If you choose to register for the event – go to mejorenbici.gob.ar –  you will have a chance to some nice prizes, if not just come and enjoy the ride.

Buenos Aires Food Week & Spanish Gastronomy Week

Two simultaneous gastronomic events will be taking place in Buenos Aires on the week of April 15 – April 21, 2013. 


Buenos Aires Food Week, a new annual event in which 25 of the best restaurants in the city will offer lunch and dinner menus at promotional prices, will be held for the first time in Buenos Aires from April 15 to April 21, 2013.

With similar editions in New York, San Pablo, Milan and other major cities worldwide, the goal of this Food Week is democratizing access to haute-cuisine, offering the general public the opportunity to learn about premium restaurants and taste unique dishes at attractive prices.

Each restaurant will offer a fixed three step menu (starter, main course and dessert) with a fixed price of $ 99 pesos for lunch and $ 169 pesos for dinner, not including drinks, service and tip.

The Regions of Asturias, Galicia and Madrid will participate actively through top-level chefs that will display their skills in some of the participating restaurants.
