Sharilyn Amy, MBA

Sharilyn is the developer, co-owner and operator of an award-wining eco-hotel in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site and wildlife reserve in Patagonia, Argentina, Océano Patagonia: Wild Coast Residence. She spent the first years of her career working in communications for the oil and gas sector before transitioning to the Red Cross, where she managed disaster response communications, publicity and government relations strategies around the globe. She then founded Go-To Group, a strategic planning, research and facilitation consultancy. Among other leading-and-learning-edge strategic leadership offers, her team specialized in community economic development (CED), social enterprise, and M&A in the social services, charity, education and NGO sectors. In 2012, Sharilyn took a leave of absence from her work to spend some time in Argentina, where she quickly fell in love with the culture and the challenges of doing business and making a difference within this complex society. After supporting the development of a CED tourism project in the mountains of Patagonia, she joined her Argentine business partner to develop socially and environmentally responsible luxury accommodation in Peninsula Valdés, Chubut, Argentina. Most recently, Sharilyn and another Argentine business associate have created ElementPatagonia, an initiative to help Argentine artisans reach broader markets. She has been awarded the Women of Inspiration – Humanitarian award in Canada and recognized with an Alumni Achievement award from Mount Royal University. Sharilyn often speaks to groups interested in development and social enterprise. She also enjoys coaching young entrepreneurs. Have questions about the laws and protocols of getting your affairs in order here in Argentina?  Want to know more about end of life issues in Buenos Aires?

On May 15, on Zoom, BAIN member Helen Wilkie facilitated a 3-part presentation. Family lawyer Laura Falabella and her partner Alejandro Breit presented Argentine succession and testamentary requirements, Helen Wilkie presented a summary of funeral information, and Cliff Williamson talked about transportation of goods and remains.  A question-and-answer period followed.

As a reference for attendees and those who want resources to learn more, see below video of the Final Tramites Zoom session, and (below that) links to pdfs the participants provided.

Temporary Suspension of Transportation

Published recently by the Minister of Transportation of Argentina.  Below is the link to Mario Meoni’s announcement.  Also below is the gist of the communication in English.

Highlights:  Starting at midnight on March 19th, all domestic planes, long distance trains and buses are suspended completely until midnight March 25.  This is to prevent people who are not taking the health crisis seriously from travelling during the long weekend (March 23 and 24 are holidays in Argentina). They will also be checking roads. The government wants people to understand that they have to stay indoors and are not on vacation. Normal buses and trains will take only seated people, no passengers will be allowed to stand.
