Their guacamole is definitely the best I have encountered in Buenos Aires. I plan to order dishes of chips and guacamole as an appetizer to share so I can’t quote an exact price until I know how many are attending. However, the cost will be less than 220 pesos per person. They have a full range of tequilas, both regular and Mezcal, and a great margarita will add upwards of 100 pesos depending on your choice.

Meilin Klemann and her mom have been turning heads with the Taiwanese specialties in their restaurant and have a large following of faithful customers. The menu is all about that quintessential Chinese pork bun – the bao. The bun itself is so soft and delicious that it will leave you wanting more by itself. The pork filling will have you thinking about ordering a dozen to take home! It doesn’t stop there, we will have two main courses to choose from.

Starter: 1 pork shoulder o pork belly bao: homemade bun stuffed with stewed pork in soy sauce, star anise, rice wine, ginger and sugar. Topped with fresh cilantro, crushed peanuts and home-made sweet and sour radish pickles.
Choice of 2 main courses:
1. Japanese Beef Curry with carrot, onion, potato, served with rice
2. Mandarin Chicken: organic chicken with a natural orange sauce made with fresh orange juice, served with rice and stir-fried greens.
Dessert of the day
Choice of 1 glass of house wine, mineral water or other soft drink.
Complimentary pitchers of filter water will be served on the tables.
The restaurant is on San Martin between Paraguay and Marcelo T. de Alvear. There is a Galeria that runs between the restaurant and Florida street that provides an easy entry point from San Martin Plaza.

The January lunch at Tao-Tao will be family style, starting with appetizers followed by chicken, pork, vegetable dishes and rice as the main entrees. Beer, wine and tap water will be on the table. One of the appetizers will be fried calamari rings “rabas” which is an unusual dish to find in a Chinese restaurant but they are the best Michael has had in Argentina.  Probably because of the owner’s Japanese heritage, the tempura batter is outstanding.

We are going back to El Burladero next Wednesday for the simple reason that in Michael’s opinion this restaurant offers the best lunch value in the entire city – plus they have a new menu!  The brothers that run El Burladero, Fervor, Sexto and Sotte Voce know how to deliver excellence. As expected we will be served a glass of cider or beer to go with the bread and entrada, and a glass of wine with the meal.

As of this November Tripadvisor now rates this venue as the 58th best restaurant in the city out of 4,253. Please note that the menu does not include water or coffee. If you order either it will be an additional 40 pesos per. Tap water will be available on the table.

Our price will be 285 pesos which includes tip and is about 16% more than our cost in March!

This option includes the beverage and coffee but not dessert. If you order the small plate option you can add dessert for the same price (200 pesos). There is a more economical offering of just sandwiches at 100 pesos with no beverages.
The house wine is a certified organic product made by Santiago’s mother in Mendoza, she also has her own olive oil on display for a price of 125 pesos per liter. The wine is in the style of a Greek retsina – which means it will have an oxidized taste to it.

Monthly Luncheon — Thursday, April 21

Please RSVP to Michael Weldon at mweldon213@yahoo.com or 4815-4660

Place:  Sivela 465

Time: Thursday, April 21 at 12:30 pm

Location: Av. Pte. Manuel Quintana 465 – near Callao

Cost: 295 pesos (includes water, wine and tip)

On April 21 we will have lunch at Sivela. The most important reason that Sivela is Michael’s choice is the value proposition. The Foodweek lunch special pricing is 220 pesos not including beverage or tip. Our price for lunch at Sivela includes wine, water and tip. At 295 pesos that is what Michael calls a good value, especially since the restaurant prices water at 35 pesos and a glass of wine at 59 pesos.
